The USPS has announced as of August 1st, 2013, they will no longer be delivering mail on Saturdays.
I’m mad at the USPS and I’ll tell you why.
I run a small business from home. In the late 90′s, you could ship a package Priority Mail across the country for $3. But as soon as Ebay started to really take off (1997/2000), and people were shipping stuff everywhere like CRAZY, the USPS got really greedy and started raising their prices – a LOT. I remember a jump from $3.20 to over $5, and it went up every single year. The USPS got so expensive, people started shipping using other companies, other methods, and cheaper methods. For a while I did use UPS when it made sense for my business. But then I switched my line of products and started shipping 1st Class Mail. The same packages that I used to be able to ship from NY to CA used to cost $3.20 – now costs $12.95+. That is drastic. The USPS got so greedy, they are now suffering. And now we all have to suffer for their greediness.
I understand that in these times, email has taken the place of a lot of 1st Class mail. Who wants to pay 46¢ to mail a letter or pay a bill? People don’t write letters and send them through the mail anymore. They fax or email. And if you are like me, you pay your bills online. But thanks to the internet, people are also shipping more PACKAGES than they ever have before. Every retail store has a website that you can order from. People like me have dot com websites and they ship packages to their customers every day. The post office might be losing out on their 46¢ stamp sales, but they are making up way more than that in package shipments. At least, they could be, if they weren’t so greedy.
I have packages being shipped out 6 days a week. And now my customers will have to wait until Monday for their packages to be shipped out. This doesn’t make my customers happy, and that doesn’t make me happy. In this economy, we need all the business we can get. This could have an impact on small businesses like mine. Larger companies can just offer FedEx or UPS shipping. But that would really hurt my bottom line. So only time will tell and we will have to see if this will impact my business. But either way, I think the USPS has no one to blame but themselves for this cut.

The last I knew it hasn’t went through Congress and been approved. They said that it probably wouldn’t get approved because of so much business they do on Saturday.
But I could be wrong and they could have decided but last I knew this morning it wasn’t decided.
It was on the news this morning, and it’s on the USPS website. As of August 1st, they will not be delivering mail on Saturdays.
