As soon as I heard about this product – Chick Pz from the Nutty Bean Co, I was VERY anxious to try these! When I was younger, I used to eat these all the time. I remember my (Italian) grandma getting me a jar of dried chichi and fava beans at a little Italian market she always shopped at. So when I think of Chick peas, it takes me back to my childhood and very fond memories of my grandma. Over the years, here in Upstate NY anyways, you don’t see them very often. So when I saw this website was selling Chick Pz – and in so many intriguing flavors, I just HAD to try them.
The Nutty Bean Co sent me a sampler pack to review. I didn’t know what flavors they were going to send me. I was delighted to see these flavors when I opened the box:
- Sea Salt
- Honey Roasted
- Chai Vanilla
- Sweet & Spicy Chipotle
- Dark Chocolate
- Sesame Crunch
I was SO excited to try these! I started with the Sea Salt. Now, I remember chichi beans always being VERY hard and crunchy. In fact, I broke a tooth eating them one time. These were NOT like that. They felt hard to touch, but they were light, crunchy and crispy when I bit into them! Not hard whatsoever to eat. They were actually better than I ever remembered them to be. I absolutely loved the texture and the taste of them. These were my favorites of all of them.
Next I tried the Honey Roasted. How can you go wrong with ANYTHING that’s Honey Roasted, right? It was the perfect combination of salty and sweet. Yum!
I didn’t know what to expect from the Chai Vanilla, as I didn’t even know what Chai tasted like. All I know, is they were DELICIOUS! They reminded me of something and I couldn’t put my finger on it at first. But then, (after devouring almost the entire bag), I realized they reminded me of cinnamon and vanilla candy coated almonds that I get at the State Fair. And it also reminded me of a cereal. I asked my boyfriend to try them and get his thoughts and he said they tasted like Apple Jacks cereal! They had this sweet, crunchy coating on the outside that was just so good. The Chai Vanilla was a great taste combo!
I also wasn’t sure how I’d feel about the Sesame Crunch, but I was intrigued. To my surprise, they too, were excellent! They were covered in a sweet coating loaded with sesame seeds. I loved the extra crunch the sesame seeds gave them.
Now, the Sweet & Spice Chipotle – I pretty much had my mind made up before I even opened the bag that I wouldn’t care for the flavor. It just didn’t sound good to me for some reason. I opened the bag and I could really smell the spicy seasoning. I was a little afraid to be honest! lol I didn’t know if it would be hot. But, for the sake of the review, I grabbed a few and tossed them in my mouth. **wow** To my SHOCK, I loved them!! They had just enough sweet and just enough heat, not overpowering at all. In all honesty, I wouldn’t have ever bought these. But now that I tried them, I would totally buy them! I am craving more!
The last flavor I tried was the Dark Chocolate. Now, I’m more of a milk chocolate kinda girl, I am not a huge fan of dark chocolate. I tried them and they were good. In my opinion, there was a little too much chocolate on them, but that’s because I REALLY just love the actual flavor of the chick pea. I think if they even had milk chocolate I would have preferred less chocolate (I know, less chocolate? What’s wrong with me?) My mom loves dark chocolate though, and chick peas, so I gave them to her to try and she LOVED them! She thought they tasted great together and really liked the chocolate.
As you probably know, we’re on the Nutrisystem Diet. So finding healthy snacks is very important, not only for us, but for everyone. Chick Pz are the PERFECT snack! They are a great source of protein! They have NO trans fats, NO cholesterol, NO added oils, NO additives or preservatives, and NO high fructose corn syrup! They come in perfect sized resealable bags (2 oz) for bringing to work, school, or wherever for an easy, healthy snack! Forget the chips, pass me some Chick Pz!
