Last Friday, my boyfriend and I went to Pizza Hut for a late lunch.  We ordered a pan pizza and beverages. It took an usually long time for the pizza to arrive, because there was only one waitress, and she was gabbing at a table for a very long time.
When the pizza arrived, we noticed right away that the pizza had an unusual taste to it, but we couldn’t pinpoint why or what it was.  It had an unpleasant and sweet taste. After taking a few bites, I noticed something on my pizza. There were cherries on my pizza! Yes, cherries.
When the waitress finally came over to our table again, I asked her if they had anything on their menu with cherries. She cheerfully said “oh yes! We have cherry dessert pizza on the buffet.”  I proceeded to tell her how there were cherries in our pizza. She said it was because they used the same cutter for the regular pizzas as they do the dessert pizzas.  And then took our check out of her pocket, and said “I don’t usually do this, but no one will ever know.. I’ll give you the senior citizen discount of 10% off your order for the problem.”  Mind you, my boyfriend is 44 and I’m 38. Hardly senior citizens. And further more, 10% really doesn’t help that we couldn’t eat our pizza because cherries on a pizza is GROSS. But, we didn’t have it in us to fight this, as we were in the middle of dealing with the possibility of having to put one of our dogs to sleep.  We just paid the check and left, but we were disgusted.
The more I thought about it, the more mad it made me. Cross-contaminations, food allergies, using dirty utensils, etc, was all going through my mind. So Friday night, I emailed the company with our complaint.  We’ve had bad service at a lot of Pizza Hut locations, and we have never complained. But this was an issue that I felt needed to be addressed and I couldn’t let it go.
I just received a response to my email. Here’s what it said: (this is a cut & paste – grammar and spelling errors are not mine!)
Valerie I received your report on the unit please accept our apologizes for this matter. The manager on hand gave you dumb excuse because they do not use the same rocker knife in any unit. We are not allowed due to FSC (food safety) cross contamination. I will be calling the unit and reviewing first with the RSM and with the borrowed manager. Also the unit had a cross trained emplpoyee in BOH to help at any point. But I will review with the whole team about customer service. I will send compensation in the mail. Thank You, S.Madden DO

Now, I have no idea what RSC, RSM, or BOH stands for, but he did say he was sending compensation in the mail, so I’m assuming we’ll be receiving a coupon for a free pizza. Which, if we do receive, we will NOT be going to the same location where this happened. We will NEVER visit that location again. So if you are in the Canandaigua, NY location and are craving pizza – do yourself a favor and get it somewhere else. Unless of course, you enjoy cherries on your pizza.
I decided to respond to his email. You can see it here:
