Watch her video, and at the 1:40 mark she talks about bloggers.
She says, “Who are these bloggers? They’re not trained editors at Vogue magazine. I mean there are bloggers writing recipes that aren’t tested, that aren’t necessarily very good, or are copies of everything that really good editors have created and done. So bloggers create a kind of popularity, but they are not the experts. And we have to understand that.”
Martha Stewart dissing bloggers? I’m so shocked. Not. I’ve never been a Martha Stewart fan. Ever. When she first started selling her crap in KMart, my mom bought me a set of her silverware, thinking that because it had Martha’s name on it, it was quality. Well guess what? One time in the dishwasher, and they completely RUSTED. My mom returned them, got her money back, and got me a nice set at a different store.
I also made the mistake of purchasing a comforter set from her brand, and one time in the wash and it completed pilled and looked a hundred years old.
So to hear Martha Stewart dissing bloggers because we’re “not trained editors at Vogue magazine” is just so ironic. Her stuff isn’t quality. The stuff she sells in stores is CRAP. I do like some of her recipes, but you know what? I often have to alter her recipes, because I don’t like them as they are. What makes HER the “expert”? To say that “bloggers writing recipes that aren’t tested, that aren’t necessarily very good“… really? How does she know they aren’t tested? What makes her even say that? I can’t speak for all bloggers, but I personally don’t post recipes unless they are tried and true! Most of the recipes I post are ones that are handed down to me, from my Italian grandma. And I guarantee you, Martha’s got nothing on my grandma! I do find some recipes on Pinterest, but I always try them myself before passing them on to my readers. Why would I want to pass on bad recipes? Why would any blogger? Yeah, there are some bloggers out there who will post absolutely anything without a care, but let’s not put all bloggers in the same basket, shall we?
I personally think that most bloggers are not experts, but just very passionate about the topic they blog about. What’s wrong with that? I’m just so sick of Martha’s arrogance. She acts so high and mighty all the time! Someone needs to knock her down a peg or two. Get her off her high horse. She’s not the “all knowing”, she’s not the expert in all things, she’s human. Just like you and me. The only thing I would consider her an expert in, is being a snob who thinks she’s better than everyone else.
If you’ve watched any of my Mail Call videos, you’ll see that I continually get her stupid Martha Stewart Living magazine in the mail. I never signed up for it, I never paid for it, I never asked for it, I never wanted it. I have requested to be removed from the mailing, but I still get them every month. On the bright side, they make wonderful fire starters.
