Slow cooker recipe: EASY baked apples! So delicious!!

April 15, 2013 by bargainhound Leave a Comment

bakedapple1

I received a Ninja 3-in-1 cooker for Christmas from my parents, so I’m going hog wild trying out a bunch of new recipes 🙂

Now, I will tell you right now that I HATE apple pie.   I just don’t like it.  But baked apples?  Now that’s an entirely different story!

Here’s my recipe for the most incredible baked apples that are so easy to make, and you can make them in your slow cooker!

You will need:

  • 4-6 apples
  • 1/2 cup quick oats
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • butter

Now, you can use any apple you like, but I prefer a more sweet & tart apple, so I used Honey Crisps.  I don’t like dry tasting apples, like Red Delicious, but you use whatever kind of apple you like.

First step is to core out the apple, but don’t cut all the way through to the bottom.   Peel about a 1/2″ ring around the top of the apple.  This will keep your apple from cracking while baking.  Place them in your slow cooker.

bakedapple2

Mix the brown sugar and oats, and stuff your apples with the mixture.  Stuff them good!

bakedapple3

Add a pat of butter on top of each apple. If you have extra filling left over, sprinkle it on top of the butter.

bakedapple4

Cook in your slow cooker on HIGH heat for about 3 hours, or until the apples are very soft, almost mushy. (That’s how I like them anyways).

bakedapple5

When you place them on your plate (or bowl, is what I used), pour a little of the drizzle from the bottom of the slow cooker over the apple.  You can top with vanilla ice cream, caramel, or reddi-whip, or eat them just as they are.   I think they are perfect just as they are.  These are INCREDIBLE!!   And so easy!  I have to say, this just may be my new favorite dessert!

Slow cooker recipe: Baked pears

January 10, 2013 by bargainhound Leave a Comment

bakedpear1

I received a Ninja 3-in-1 cooker for Christmas from my parents, so I’m going hog wild trying out a bunch of new recipes :)

Here’s my recipe for the most incredible baked pears that are so easy to make, and you can make them in your slow cooker!

You will need:

  • 2-3 pears, sliced in half and cored
  • 1/2 cup quick oats
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • butter

You can use any type of pear that you like.  I chose a more sweet pear, but I don’t remember the name of it.  My favorite pears are Bosc, but I wasn’t sure if they would hold up, so I chose a harder pear.

The first step is to wash the pears, and then slice them in half, lengthwise.  Then core out the center.  A melon baller works great for this.

bakedpear2

Then just fill the cores with the oats mixture.  Place a pat of butter on top.  If you have any mixture left over, place it on top of the butter.  I had quite a bit left over, so I just poured the rest in the cooker. It made a syrup that I just poured over the pears when they were done.   Then just cook in your slow cooker on high for about 3 hours, or until the pears are very soft.

bakedpear3

This is the same recipe I use for my baked apples as well.  I do prefer the apples over the pears, but the pears were really good too.  Put a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top for an extra bonus 🙂  This is a very easy and delicious dessert!
